Our approach

We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use a keyboard rather than a mouse, people who use screen readers, and people who enlarge text or change how pages are displayed.

We work to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as an internal target. That is the standard we design and build against. It is a target we have set for ourselves. It is not a statement that this site has been formally tested against that standard, or that it has been found to meet it.

What we check

As we build and review the site, our accessibility checks include:

  • headings follow a logical order;
  • text can be selected, resized and reflowed without content being lost;
  • links and controls can be reached and used with a keyboard;
  • keyboard focus is visible as you move through a page;
  • links are identifiable without relying on colour alone;
  • text contrast is checked against the background it sits on;
  • pages work at desktop, tablet and phone widths without sideways scrolling;
  • where forms are present, form fields have labels connected to them.

Known limitations

This site has not been through a formal external accessibility audit, and we make no claim of conformance with any accessibility standard.

Our checks are carried out by the team as part of building and reviewing each page, rather than by an independent assessor. That means some issues may not have been found.
